Supporting the low income and houseless populations of Bayview-Hunters Point since 1984.

The United Council of Human Services, home of Mother Brown’s Dining Room, has been a touchstone of San Francisco’s Bayview and Hunters Point communities for over 35 years – providing a warm meal to anyone in need and working with the houseless population by supporting each individual in their journey towards permanent housing.

UCHS is more than a grassroots organization, it’s a family. Made up of local Bayview-Hunters Point residents, we provide our community with the services they need.

If you are part of the Bayview, you know Gwen. She has been steering the ship that is UCHS since 2004, when Barbara J. Brown personally handed her the baton from her Hospital bed.

"You always need that push."

Naketa Woodson, Program Director

Our clients come from all walks of life, from those experiencing homelessness for the first time, to the chronically unhoused, to Veterans readjusting to civilian life. We know our success comes from meeting people where they’re at. Once you start to see people as people, not as a category or a number, you are touched.

It’s all about showing up with an open heart and an open mind.

Our response to the crisis: RV’s Shelter in Place

Our RV Shelter in Place program is a special collaboration with the city of San Francisco in response to the COVID-19 crisis. We’re providing RVs for unhoused Bayview-Hunters Point residents in order to keep them safe and healthy during the pandemic.

“The whole community depends on this place.”

Gwendolyn Westbrook, CEO
